The Seattle Section Younger Member Forum is the recipient of the Younger Member Group Award for Large Groups outreach, and community service activities on behalf of the Seattle Section Younger Member Forum (YMF). Highlighting the projects sponsored by the Seattle Section’s YMF was its 18th Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge (PSB) Competition, which took place at the Museum of Flight on February 9 this year in conjunction with the Puget Sound Engineering Council’s Engineering Fair. In attendance were 136 students from 17 schools around the Puget Sound area, double that of last year’s competition. Prizes were awarded for the 3 best overall bridges, the 3 strongest, the 3 most aesthetic, and the best teamwork. In an effort to accommodate out-of-town schools unable to attend the event, the Seattle YMF posted all of the bridge-testing videos on YouTube. This was the first time the YMF’s bridge testing has been broadcast online. New to the event this year is a t-shirt design competition that will take place February 8, 2015, at the 19th Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition. Through generous funding from local businesses and companies, the Seattle YMF was able to give a $500 scholarship to one high school senior pursuing a math, science, or engineering degree.
