ASCE has honored Stephen J. Ressler, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, with the 2017 John L. Parcel–Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award for his profound and long-lasting contributions to the civil engineering profession.
Ressler has displayed extraordinary character and high professional integrity while establishing a national and international reputation as an engineering educator, scholar, leader, manager, and professional role model. His accomplishments have come via faculty development, educational/technical research, and professional service, and through his eloquent and highly influential advocacy for the civil engineering profession.
Among his many contributions:
• Developer, leader, coordinator, instructor, and mentor, ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop: over 780 CE faculty have participated, benefiting countless CE students
• Developer of the West Point Bridge Design software and director of the WPBD Contest: an effective outreach program developed to engage students with realistic, challenging, and fun experiences in engineering
• Service and leadership on numerous committees
• Leader of the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at West Point
The John L. Parcel–Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award is given to an ASCE member who has made a definite contribution in the form of written presentations or notable performance to the field of civil engineering management.
