Ming-Tuck Sam, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a structural engineering consultant in the offshore oil and gas industry, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Sam has more than 25 years of professional experience in designing, constructing, and installing offshore structures and pipelines. He has worked for major oil & gas and related companies, including McDermott, Bechtel, ExxonMobil, Sapura Energy, and INTECSEA. In many of the projects he has handled, he has made innovative designs to meet the challenging offshore environment of very shallow water to that exceeding 1,500 meters in depth. Some of these projects involved the largest structures in the region at the time, and others involved construction methods that were a first in the industry. His years of experience culminated in the development of several software tools that have become a reference and guide for many engineers in his local community.
He has contributed technical papers in international journals and conferences, one of which received the Best Paper Award by the joint Institution of Engineers Singapore/Institution of Structural Engineers UK.
His expertise has been proven in the local oil and gas industry in the form of design guidelines and training materials for engineers.
Sam received his B.Eng (civil) with first-class honors, as well as a Ph.D. in structural engineering, from the National University of Singapore.
