D. Michael Mucha, P.E., F.ASCE, director of Madison (Wisconsin) Metropolitan Sewerage District, has served on numerous ASCE committees and is the current chair of the Committee on Sustainability. Mucha, who received ASCE’s Daniel W. Mead Award for Younger Members for ethics in engineering, and was the Wisconsin Section’s Young Civil Engineer of the Year, holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington (Seattle), as well as a certificate for Senior Executives in State and Local Government from Harvard University. Previously, he served as director of Public Works for the City of Olympia, Washington, and Reading, Pennsylvania. The programs he implemented to bolster the City of Olympia’s capital planning and improve sustainable operations have been implemented by numerous municipalities in Washington state and elsewhere.
