At the ASCE2010 post-conference Younger Member Networking Event, we competed in a Lego tower building contest. Building a pretty structure wasn’t enough to win this challenge. We were judged based on height, time of construction, and number of blocks used.
The contest provided for time to plan the construction and estimate the building ‘cost’ based on time of construction and number of blocks. Could we meet our design targets? Even in a room full of engineers, the challenge was difficult.
The winner literally stood head and shoulders taller than the rest.
