Pierre Y. Julien, Ph.D., P.Eng., M.ASCE, is the recipient of the Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award for his numerous achievements and contributions to the hydraulic engineering profession in the areas of river mechanics and erosion and sedimentation, throughout a most distinguished, dedicated research and academic career.
Professor of civil and environmental engineering at Colorado State University and coordinator of the Hydraulics and Wind Engineering Division, Julien completed projects for 50 different agencies, among them UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) and the World Bank.
Author of the books River Mechanics and Erosion and Sedimentation, Julien has authored more than 500 scientific contributions, including 2 textbooks, 25 book chapters and lecture manuals, 175 refereed journal articles including 95 full papers in scientific journals, 150 professional presentations, 150 conference papers, and 125 technical reports. In addition, he has delivered 15 keynote addresses at international conferences.
Throughout his academic career, he has supported and guided more than 115 graduate students (including 38 Ph.D. students) toward completion of their engineering degrees.
Among his awards and honors, Julien was named ASCE Outstanding Reviewer for ASCE’s Journal of Hydraulic Engineering in 2010 and received ASCE’s Hans Albert Einstein Award in 2004.
