Jose N. Gómez, P.E., F.ASCE, is vice-president and senior principal geotechnical engineer at ECS Florida, LLC. He has more than 35 years of experience in a wide range of geotechnical and civil engineering consulting services for studies, designs, project layouts, and construction supervisions in more than 190 projects since 1980, including large civil projects such as hydroelectric, aqueduct, irrigation, and port projects in Colombia.
Gómez is very familiar with the geology and residual soils in Central and South America (tropical soils). These projects usually faced large excavations and slope stability analysis, dam design, stabilization measurements, deep foundation designs, and bulkhead designs, among others.
In addition, his extensive and diversified geotechnical and civil engineering experience has included active and lead participation in projects layout and development as a field engineer, lead design engineer, and resident manager (QC/QA director). Gómez has provided forensic and value engineering, and geotechnical recommendations for site preparation, earthwork, and foundation design for a wide spectrum of industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects – including oil exploration facilities, marine and river ports and container yards, and multistory buildings – for projects in both the public and private sectors.
Currently adjunct professor at Old Dominion University, where he teaches several undergraduate and graduate geotechnical courses in soils and foundations, Gomez has published more than 40 technical papers in a variety of seminars, technical sessions, and proceedings related to geotechnical and civil engineering projects.
