James L. Willmer, P.E., F.ASCE, executive vice president of Willmer Engineering Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Willmer has contributed more than 40 years to the field of civil engineering in the practice areas of geotechnical, environmental, facilities, and construction materials. His project experience is manifold: airports, airport facilities, roadways, bridges, parks, fire stations, museums, multimodal facilities, parking decks, dams and reservoirs, waterline/sewer failures, retention pond sedimentation issues, landfills, jails, law enforcement centers, building renovations and new construction, pavement evaluations, environmental surveys (Phase I, asbestos, lead), UST closures, remediation systems/cleanups, regulatory compliance, etc.
His responsibilities at Willmer Engineering include project management, financial management, and client development. He was the principal-in-charge for the company’s services for the four teams providing all design services to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, a $6.3 billion development program.
Outside of his professional practice, Willmer has contributed to the field through providing numerous technical trainings, and as editor of several of ASCE’s sponsored geotechnical conferences, the most recent of which was the Geo-Frontiers Conference in Dallas, TX, in 2011.
