Balint Elected ASCE Fellow

Stephen W. Balint, P.E., F.ASCEStephen W. Balint, P.E., D.OE, F.ASCE, is an executive at Shell International Exploration and Production, Inc., and has nearly 35 years of experience in the design and execution of production installations in challenging and harsh locations.

Previously a member of ASCE’s Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and River Institute’s Ocean and Offshore Engineering Committee and the Offshore Technology Conference Brazil Program Committee, Balint has had the good fortune to provide design and management efforts to many exciting offshore projects around the world, including the Auger TLP (Tension Leg Platform), which received ASCE’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award in 1995.

A graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and Tulane University with a master’s degree in civil engineering, Balint has been a member of the Offshore Technology Conference Board of Directors, representing ASCE from 2007 to 2011, and was chairman from 2011 to 2013.

Last year, Balint was recognized with ASCE’s William H. Wisely American Civil Engineer Award, which honors individuals or groups of individuals who are members of ASCE and who have made continuing efforts to promote appreciation for the history, tradition, developments, and technical and professional activities of the Society. He was recognized for his “distinguished representation of ASCE on the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Board of Directors, including two years of service as chairman, and his outstanding leadership in expanding the OTC to include the new OTC Asia and OTC Brasil conferences.”
