With a passion for developing leader skills in himself and in others, Jim O’Brien has made a lifetime of practicing, studying, and teaching others about leadership. During his 26 year career as a US Army Engineer officer, Jim moved through the ranks of muddy boot engineer to project leader for US Air Force infrastructure projects in the Republic of Korea to developer of tomorrow’s engineers and leaders. Today, he enjoys the opportunities provided by ASCE to influence and impact others at all levels of the civil engineering team. His affiliations with numerous universities, influential leaders, and aspiring new leaders provide him with a unique listening post from which he shares observations and pointers about being an effective leader in the 21st Century.
