Brigham Young University ASCE Student Chapter is the recipient of the Robert Ridgway Student Chapter Award for excellence in the effective and meritorious conduct of its affairs as a Student Chapter of ASCE through the ability and professional diligence of the Chapter officers, members, and faculty advisors. The Robert Ridgway Student Chapter Award is annually presented to the single most outstanding student chapter of the ASCE. Brigham Young University was selected for the award because over the past year they made progress to become a more active, service-oriented, and unified student chapter. Beginning with 5 main goals that they wanted to meet to improve their student chapter, the students saw the benefits of what being a member of ASCE can provide and therefore worked toward increasing membership over the year. The officers wanted to continue their legacy of community service by providing ample opportunities for the students to serve in a meaningful way, and also provide 7 technical field trips to give the students a chance to go out into the field and observe civil engineering in action. By encouraging students to attend Central Utah Branch luncheons as well as other professionally sponsored ASCE activities, the student chapter provided an excellent opportunity for students to get involved in ASCE on a larger scale through networking with professional engineers.
