At its heart, the civil engineering profession is about service; thus it’s fitting that the ASCE Foundation is again joining in the holiday season #GivingTuesday campaign.
A coalition of nonprofit groups began #GivingTuesday as a day for Americans to remember that the holiday spirit of giving include donations to charities and other worthy causes. Always held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday falls this year on Dec. 1. The ASCE Foundation has joined in #GivingTuesday since its 2012 inception.
Donations raised by the foundation on #GivingTuesday will fund ASCE programs in 2016. The foundation supports ASCE programs within three strategic areas of lifelong learning and leadership, advocacy for infrastructure investment, and civil engineers’ role in sustainability.
The ASCE Foundation’s campaign this year is joining with other United Engineering Foundation groups in a #GivingTuesday drive called “Engineering a Better World.” The American Institute of Chemical Engineers Foundation, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Foundation, and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration are the other groups involved. Together the five participating societies will convey this message to nearly one million engineers in more than 150 countries.
