Tegas CEO, Leading Civil Engineer in Nigeria Named ASCE Fellow

Blessing Tega Oboh, C.Eng, F.ASCE, the chairman and chief executive officer of Tegas Engineering Company Ltd., in Nigeria, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Oboh, after working briefly as a contract project engineer at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, took charge of Tegas in 1984. He has given strategic direction and formulated key corporate policies and procedures of operation for the company, leading it to complete several remarkable civil engineering projects for clients in the Nigeria Oil and Gas sector of the Government Ministries and Departments.

He is also the principal consultant of Tegas Consultants, an engineering consultancy firm specializing in design of highways and transportation infrastructure. He is registered and licensed as an engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers. He is a dedicated philanthropist as well, helping to fund engineering seminars and technical sessions in his country.

Oboh has been involved as a project team lead on over 24 engineering construction projects and more than 14 engineering consultancy services contracts. After some years as vice president of ASCE’s Nigeria International Section, he served as Section president from 2015 to 2017, during which time he organized workshops and industrial visits that have helped in the grooming and mentoring of students and young engineers. He has attended several national and international engineering conventions, including the ASCE conventions in Portland, OR, New York, Charlotte, NC, and the 2014 ASCE Global Engineering Conference held in Panama City. He has also presented technical papers in different engineering forums.

For his passion and contribution to the civil engineering profession, he was inducted into the Nigeria Construction Industry Hall of Fame in September 2017. He has been a practicing civil engineer for over 35 years, and is listed in Who’s Who in Civil Engineering in Nigeria, published by NICE.

Oboh holds a master of engineering degree in highway and transportation engineering from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
