Halil Sezen, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a distinguished researcher and technical supporter in the field of structural engineering, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Sezen contributes to the profession through his participation on technical committees, development of technical documents and standards, chairing and organization of technical sessions in conferences (including nine sessions in Structural Engineering Institute and ASCE Structures Congresses), editorial activities, and review of publications. Recently he contributed to the ASCE/SEI 41-13: Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings standard as a member of the Material Requirements and Concrete Provisions subcommittees.
His computational and experimental research focuses on dynamic response and collapse of various structures, including concrete buildings. His original research on various structural engineering topics has been recognized through several awards at the national and international level. His work has been published in technical journals, books and conference proceedings, and granted patents, and presented at scientific meetings and conferences.
Sezen has also received educational awards for integrating real-world structural engineering applications into classroom teaching.
