Panneer Shanmugam, P.E., F.ASCE, vice president and business head of the North America Process Industry segment of L&T Technology Services, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Shanmugam has worked for the past 20 years in varying capacities, from senior leadership to practicing engineer, with AECOM and its legacy companies. Previous to this he had begun contributing to the practice of civil engineering through the development and performance of numerous projects that advance society in general, whether industrial facilities that improve living standards and productivity or ones that restore ever-diminishing natural resources. He has been a results-driven consultant and executive, serving the engineering and construction industry by identifying and driving business development, commercial, and execution strategies across industry segments such as power, telecommunications, water, wastewater, CPG, chemical, O&G, and mass transit.
He has participated extensively over the years with ASCE and organizations such as the American Water Resources Association and the Florida Engineering Society to support the profession. ASCE published in its technical journals the objectives and methodology of the program that stands out to Shanmugam as his most significant, namely, his contribution to the restoration of Florida’s Everglades, a national heritage and treasure. He was a principal engineering leader of several critical restoration projects, and oversaw the teams that carefully analyzed and evaluated the conditions of restoration of the Everglades sheetflow pathways, originating from Kissimee Basin in Central Florida to Biscayne Bay at the southern tip of the state.
Shanmugam received his bachelor degree in civil engineering from the National University of Singapore in 1994, and went on to complete his M.E. in civil engineering and earn an MBA at Florida Atlantic University.
